This tour is designed to discover in a 14 day journey the main traces of the Sephardic culture in Spain, in Toledo, Seville, Cordoba, Lucena, Granada, Barcelona, Girona and Besalú.

A retrospective view into the contribution of Judaism to the splendour of the culture in medieval Iberia.

  • Private guided morning tour: Your top-expert guide will pick you up at your hotel and introduce you to the highlights of the capital of Spain: the Royal Palace, the Almudena Cathedral and the Austria quarter, which recalls, through its monuments and elegant squares, the Golden Spanish Age when Madrid was the capital of an empire stretching from Latin America to the Philippines.
    Duration: half- day tour of approximately 3 hours will provide you with an essential overview of the rich heritage of the capital of Spain. But if you wish a more in-depth tour, we recommend an optional full day visit, with a break for lunch.
  • Private guided afternoon tour (optional). Art lovers are delighted by the richness of the collections exhibited in the Prado National Museum, one of the world’s finest collections of art, featuring inestimable works of Spanish painters like Velázquez, Goya, El Greco, in addition to European geniuses like Titian, Rubens, Raphael and many others. Duration: a half day tour of approximately 3 hours.

  • Daytrip to Toledo, by High Speed Train (25 minutes) or optional private transfer.
  • Private guided tour: our top-expert guide will introduce you to the fascinating heritage of Toledo, which shelters treasures embracing Christian, Muslim and Jewish cultures. You will discover the insights of the gothic Cathedral of Toledo, probably the temple that best expresses the mysticism of Catholic medieval Spain, the Judería and its Synagogue, El Transito, now home to the Sephardic Museum. The two precious Mosques, Tornerías and Bab Mardum, constitute the main symbols of the long Islamic presence in the city. Duration: 3.5 hours tour with private guide.
  • Lunch in Toledo. After the tour, the guide will recommend the different culinary choices that Toledo offers so that you may enjoy your lunch at leisure.
  • Return trip to Madrid by High Speed Train or optional private transfer.

  • Morning trip to Seville by High Speed Train (2 h 30) and transfer to your preferred hotel.
  • Private guided tour: Jewish Seville. In the Afternoon, this tour will get you to know the Jewish Seville, home of one of the most important Jewish communities in the Middle Ages. Our expert guide will take you on a walking tour to the ancient Sevillian Aljama, today known as Barrio de Santa Cruz. It includes the visit to the centre of interpretation “Judería de Sevilla”, where you will learn the transformations of the quarter and its people. You will learn about the culture that still lives on in current customs and traditions. Then, the guide will talk about those who had to leave after the pogrom in 1391 and about those who stayed, forcibly converted and suspects of heresy during the troubled times of the Inquisition.

  • Private guided tour: The walking tour constitutes an essential introduction to the multicultural identity of Seville. The Real Alcázar (Royal Palace) displays in its collection of palaces and gardens an extraordinary juxtaposition and blending of artistic traditions. The Cathedral is the largest gothic building ever constructed, and shows off the astonishing Giralda bell tower, once the minaret of the ancient Great Mosque. The adjacent Barrio de Santa Cruz, which partially housed the Jewish quarter, perpetuates an authentic art of living in its labyrinth of passageways, peaceful squares and blossoming patios. Duration. 3.5 hours.

  • Day Trip to Cordoba by High Speed Train (only 45 minutes) or optional private transfer.
  • Private guided tour: Your expert guide will pick you up at the train station, and will introduce you to the history of a city which a thousand years ago was the magnificent capital of the Umayyad Caliphate. The main symbol of its splendor is of course the Great Mosque-Cathedral, the grandest and most beautiful ever constructed in Spain. It stands right in the centre of the city, surrounded by the Jewish Quarter, with its 14th century Synagogue, its charming traditional mansions and blossoming patios. Duration. 3.5 hours
  • Optional Old Taverns tour. Taverns in Cordoba represent the playful, lively and communicative heritage of Andalusia. These are meeting places where your guide will introduce you to this genuine cultural tradition in a cozy atmosphere.
  • Free lunch. As an alternative, you can always choose from a varied number of excellent restaurants in the city that your guide will happily recommend.

  • Pick up at your hotel in Seville for transfer to the city of Lucena. Private guided tour of Lucena, “The Pearl of Sepharad”. The city of Lucena experienced a time of splendour in the Middle Ages, when it became the main Jewish town of the al-Andalus. Lucena (Eli Ossana in Hebrew) earned the name of “Pearl of Sepharad” because the city was almost completely Jewish. The importance of its Yeshiva made Lucena centre of the most reputable Talmudic studies in Sepharad. An ancient Jewish cemetery was found in the outskirts. It constitutes the best preserved Jewish necropolis in Iberia. The guide will go over the Jewish history of this beautiful town, where the memory of the culture of exile remains on its streets, churches, castles and traditions. Duration: 2 hours.

  • Private guided tour. The essence of Moorish and Jewish Granada. This private tour with a guide expert in medieval Iberia will take you to discover the palaces of the Alhambra, one must see monument during any programmed trip to Spain. After a 2,30 hours tour to the Alhambra Palaces, we will walk down into the old “Gharnata al Yehud”, so as to visit the “Palacio de los Olvidados”, a Sephardic museum where we will learn about the fascinating and sometimes forgotten contribution of the Jews to the culture of the medieval Iberia.   • Day excursion to Ubeda, transfer by private car and driver. Private guided tour to Úbeda . In this full day tour, you will discover one of the Renaissance cities of Andalusia, Úbeda, a World Heritage Site of the UNESCO. Your expert guide will show you the most charming and lovely corners of this art city, where you will feel its Islamic, Hebrew and Christian past: the Vázquez de Molina Square with its fascinating palaces, Renaissance churches and old prisons, the Market Boulevard and the First May Square, the City Hall and the recently discovered “Water Synagogue”, with one of the very few preserved “Mikvé” (purification ritual baths) in Europe.

  • Afternoon: private guided tour to the Modernist Barcelona, your expert-guide will take you to get a close look to the works of this genius architecture. The tour starts with the visit to La Sagrada Familia, unfinished work and ultimate expression of what Gaudi and Modernism mean for Barcelona. Afterwards, you will discover the most elegant boulevard of Barcelona, the Passeig de Gracia, where you can visit some of the most astonishing creations of Gaudi: La Pedrera and Casa Batlló apart from other exceptional architectures.   • Private guided tour. Gothic and Jewish Barcelona. At the heart of the ancient Barcelona, founded by the romans more than 2000 years ago, there is the Jewish District, or “Call”, name given to all Jewries in the territory of Catalonia when it was part of the Kingdom of Aragon, back in the Middle Ages. Leaving from the Cathedral’s Square, the visit will take you to the past of this important Jewish community that probably was already present in this area since the Roman’s arrival. You will walk through narrow streets, where you will discover the traces of a very flourishing community that had up to 4500 members in its heyday. The guide will talk about some of its most outstanding members, such as Shlomo Ben Aderet (Rashba) and Moshe Ben Nahman (Ramban), biblical commentators and great rabbis of Catalonia in the 13th century. Duration: 2 h 30

  • Day trip to the Medieval Catalonia and its Hebrew past. The Cathedral of Girona has the widest gothic nave in the world and its intriguing Jewish quarter or “Call” will transport you to the Catalonian Middle Ages in its deepest roots and its complex socio-religious relations.You will also visit the Museum of Jewish History. The tour continues in Besalú, a small village 30 minutes away from Girona that keeps its medieval architecture and urban structure. Besalú has the best preserved Mikve (Jewish ritual bath) in Europe. Lunch in a suggested restaurant in Besalú and guided tour afterwards. Duration: Tour includes private transport and private expert guide (8 hours).
